About The Grateful Life
Hi, I am Hannah Kramer and I have been sick all my life. When I was born, I was violently allergic to dairy. In those days no formulas existed, and my mom couldn’t breastfeed. The doctors told her to try me on goats milk, but I was just as allergic to that. Then they found something that I wasn’t allergic to: Condensed milk! Yayyy!!!
I was a very fat baby.
The doctors told my mom to try and re-introduce dairy until I could tolerate it. You see, dairy is the only source of calcium known to mankind. And who knows what will happen if I don’t get my dairy. Yes, I am being sarcastic.
I have PCOS (Poly-cystic ovarian Syndrome), Hashimotos disease (underactive thyroid) Fibromyalgia, Diabetes and osteo arthritis. Doctors just didn’t know what to do with me. I eventually learned that “All you have to do is lose weight and all your problems will magically disappear” is doctorese for: “I don’t know what’s wrong with you and I can’t help you. And so as not to lose face and admit that I can’t do this, I put the blame on you. This way you are the one feeling inferior and you don’t see my shortcomings.”
It took me a long time to realize that I can’t rely on doctors, that they either really don’t know how to treat me, or don’t want to, and that I need to look for solutions elsewhere.
I went from doctor to doctor and finally found a regular medical doctor who is also a naturopath, homeopath and acupuncturist. He has more qualifications but I can’t remember them. I came to realize that I have gluten intolerance, and now I have to have a gluten free, sugar free, dairy free diet. Also known as the ketogenic diet.
I will be sharing my journey with you, and will also share my diet, recipes and what makes one sick. Perhaps we can do this journey together, then it will not be so lonely.
